I went from losing small change to actually breaking even and then making small but consistent wins once I got serious about prep. Thing is, you can't just rely on your gut. I used to bet just based on vibes — like, “he’s due a big innings” — but cricket doesn’t work like that. There’s so much going on: match-ups, weather, pitch behavior, even which end the bowler is coming from. I started keeping a notebook during IPL last year, jotting down which batsmen struggle against which type of bowling, how they perform in chases vs. setting a target, etc. I got obsessed with learning patterns. One of the things that really helped me figure out how much timing matters in these bets was this article — https://www.clubcricket.co.za/latestnews/why-cricket-in-game-wagering-rewards-the-prepared-bettor/ — it breaks down why in-play bets aren’t just luck and how awareness of momentum shifts can help you get ahead of the odds before they adjust. It’s not foolproof, of course, but when you’re watching live and you know what to look for, you can often see trends before the bookies react. Like, a team might lose a wicket and the odds shift, but if you know the next guy has a crazy strike rate in the powerplay, that’s your window. Timing is everything.

Sometimes I wonder if part of the fun is just not knowing what’s gonna happen next. Like yeah, you can read the game and try to spot patterns, but there’s always that one over or one shot that flips everything upside down. Keeps things interesting.
